July 26th Update

Well, I’ve finally added some sound. It’s my first time messing around with audio so it’s not very good at the moment. I’ll probably leave it for now, but I’ll definitely have to come back to that.

I’ve also changed the bullets to a shorter line segment that moves instead of the solid line from the gun to the target. Hopefully it’ll look less like the guns are shooting lasers now…

My next move will be to add some basic guns. Right now the survivors are all shooting at about 60 shots per second (1 shot per update/frame) from when I was testing hit detection. The firing rate and damage will be determined by the gun they are holding.

However, I’m going to be on vacation for about a week so it might be a little while before I post my next update.

I’ve started adding particles to the game. So far there is only blood and wood. I have the different particle types as sub classes of the main particle class. This way I can assign different properties to different types of particles. For example, blood particles stick to walls and spread out a bit when they hit a surface. While wood particles are a little bouncy and hold their form when they hit something.

Every object in the game will have a material like flesh, wood, metal, or brick. The material of the object is used to determine the kind of particles they will create when hit or destroyed.

I’ve still got some work to do, but I like how it’s turning out so far.
